This was posted on the Friends of Cass FaceBook today. It seems they’ve acquired the 2-truck Heisler that was stored in West Virginia and it is slated for a restoration following the BC&G 4. Exciting news for sure, but I suppose that means we’ll be waiting a while for the 2-truck Climax and Shay 7 to be rebuilt.

Heisler c/n 1589, 42-ton, built Aug/Sept 1929 (depending on whose list you look at), originally Fisher Lumber #2 at Holly Oak, Arkansas or Wisner, Louisiana, later Forest Products Chemical #2 in Memphis area, Tennessee; later at the short-lived Dry Gulch & Tombstone RR excursion RR/park in Wytheville, Va.; sold to a Robert Most of Tampa, Fla. in 1982; long stored since in Thomas or Davis, West Va.

It has indeed been acquired. They should be posting an announcement soon.

Historic Heisler locomotive follows country roads to new home at Cass!
Durbin & Greenbrier Valley RR has acquired a rare 2-truck Heisler locomotive from Stuart Thayer of Thomas, WV. On Monday, September 18th, the locomotive was pulled from its home since 2002, and loaded onto a lowboy trailer for transport to Cass.
Built in 1929, the 42 ton locomotive was built for the Fisher Lumber Co. of Wisner, LA and was later purchased by Forest Products Chemical Co. of Memphis, TN. During the late 1960’s the Heisler was acquired by the now-defunct Dry Gulch Junction tourist railroad in Wytheville, Va where it saw occasional operation through the early 1980’s before spending time in Florida, Alabama, and eventually Thomas, WV.
While the locomotive has no previous connection to Cass, it is only two construction numbers apart from Heisler No. 6, it is possible they may have shared the shop floor during construction.
Future plans will be announced at a later date, but a full restoration to operation is planned.

Is this the same Heisler that was discussed in this thread?

IIRC, shortlived due to the death of an employee who was hand sanding while riding on the front foot board, and fell off in front of the moving locomotive. Please be careful!

Wow. The FRA banned end footboards for a reason.

Reads to me as Durbin & Greenbrier Valley RR acquired the engine, not Cass. D&GV is only the operator of Cass last I knew?
