Basically any hardware store used to be able to supply what you seek. Or Radio Shack or similar store. Even battery stores sometimes inventory bulbs.

Has anyone come out with LED replacements for the old incandescent lantern bulbs?

I have went to all of the hardware stores in my area and all that have are the screw in type of XMAS BULBS. or blinking bulbs. RADIO SHACK went the way of the DODO BIRD, in my area' the NORTH EAST. at the flea market I found a package of new old stock, 2 pack of item # 222, from ACE HARDWARE. they are not the old big fish eye ones that are in the lantern's that don't work. filaments are gone. but the 2 pack bulbs heads are shaped like a pimple, tear drop, a lot smaller. so I got home inserted them and both of them worked in each of them. now I still need to get 2 more of them. any of you fellows got 2 more that you can / will part with? if so please let me know? thanks for all of the suggestions'.the 2 lanterns are not museum quality, but they both work. this is a great site with great members, thanks guys. toot.

I'm pretty sure what you need are 6 volt bulbs. It doesn't sound like you've found a real hardware store yet. There are at least 3 of those stores that I have access to in the 10940 zip code and if the bulbs aren't in stock they'll order them. Keep looking.

ACE HARDWARE, FARMER SUPPLY, WALLY WORLD, MICHEALS, are just some that I have tried, and nada. if you have no trouble in getting them, get me 2 of what I need and I will gladly pay you for them, before you ship them. let me know?

Ace Hardware should be able to get them for you. Each lantern has storage for 2 extra spare bulbs, so you need 4 bulbs per lantern.

You can order them at the ebay auction site also. type in " 6 volt lantern screw type bulbs"
and a list of sellers will pop up.

Ed, I punched in what you said and a myriad of them came up.what I came up with was, replacement lamp 11m/m size for ELNCO SNAP CIRCUTS 6.5 cl 2b bulb, 6v,6.2v, 6.3v,5a. $7.00 each. is this the one that I want? I want to check with you before I purchase it, because there are a very large amount of different ones.

The last bulbs I purchased were stamped on the base, just below the glass. The stamping is small. GE 502 is what's stamped on mine.

I cant find any markings on the base of the bulbs in the pictures of them, so I am going with the $7.00 ones, in 6volt. thanks so much for taking the time to assist me, toot.

Not a lantern expert but what you may be looking for is a 6.3v bulb with an E10 base. I don't know the bulb number but it's a common bulb. The 502 bulbs will fit but are generally 5.1v and may not last as long if the lantern battery is 6v.

Yes, direct LED replacements are available but they don't have the same look as the incandescents. They do draw less current so your battery will last longer.

I'm not a bulb expert, but looking at McMaster-Carr's catalog (www.mcmaster.com) it looks like trade size 605 would be close. Catalog number 1505k583. It's a screw-in subminiature base globe bulb, rated 6.2 V AC/DC sold by package of 10.
