Doe River Gorge Ministries again has a unique summer job opportunity available as a member of our railroad maintenance team. We are Christian camp located in the mountains of northeastern Tennessee, which offers adventure programs, and is named for the Doe River which flows through a deep gorge which is part of the camp property. The property also includes a scenic section of the historic East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad that established the route through the gorge in the 1880’s, which the camp has restored and operates. During the summer months, the railroad is used on weekdays to transport campers to and from several activities in the gorge and on weekends, scenic rides are offered to the public and to the parents dropping off their children for summer camp.

Each summer we recruit young men and women as counselors and activity staff, and this coming summer we are also looking to add three additional staff members to assist with the railroad. The age of the staff members is preferred to be at least 18 years old, but consideration will be given to those rising into their senior year in high school, with the candidate being at least 17 years old.

The position will be focused on maintenance of the track and right of way, but there will also be opportunities to assist with railroad operations and the new Christmas Train project. On certain days and times, the interns may be asked to also assist with general camp operations and logistics.

It should be stressed that we are looking for young people of faith, who are interested first in ministry and spiritual growth and in railroads second. Each summer the staff at Doe River Gorge becomes a tight-knit community, growing in their faith; the interns will be housed, and otherwise live in this community. Dates are somewhat negotiable, but the preferred start date is May 18th and runs through August 5th with a break during the week of June 30th. Room and board will be provided plus $310 each week and a bonus of $800 at the end of summer if the intern works the entire 10 weeks.

If interested or have questions please contact Mark Milbourne at mark@doerivergorge.com or (423) 725-4010, ext. 324.
