From their own company website: Looks like both their engines are down for FRA repairs. They have a volunteer support group there also.

Bob, in researching the active steam list for john craft's steamcentral web site, i learned that 14 was retired after the 1988 season; 18 is due out in May. A lot of active steam is active only in our memories, alas. Jim

Reading a bit further, I note the information is only for No. 18, the "Cuban" 2-8-0. Has anyone ever seen photos of pre-preservation A&A steam (not the ex-Michigan engines of today), before they dieselized? I've never seen any.

Check out "Arcade and Attica" by Edward A. Lewis, published in 1972 by The Elma Press/The Baggage Car. It is the best history of the line to date, including scores of photographs of the pre-1957 A&A steamers.

Does anyone know who is doing the CFR 49 Part 230 work on A&A No. 18? I had heard an outside steam mechanic was brought in to assist the A&A staff.

Kurt,

There was some decent discussion of recent happenings (as of late 2002) on the A&A on one of the Railroad.net discussion groups.

Lots of interesting updates and discussions, but no specific mention of who is doing the steam engine work.

Until later,
Chris
