After seeing the post below (Famous SD being scrapped)about BNSF 6111 (formerly Burlington Northern 6223 and Colorado & Southern 828) I contacted the BNSF about the locomotive. The good news is that it has not been scrapped and is still intact and they are willing to sell it to our group (Boulder County Railway Historical Society, Boulder Colorado).

Unfortunetley, the BNSF is not donating locomotives right now, so we need to come up with $17,000 to save this locomotive. We are now in the early stages of planning how to raise the money to get C&S 828 and move it back to Colorado for display at our site east of Boulder, Colorado. It will find a happy home there with a C&S coach, 40' steel boxcar and a BN caboose among other equipment.

If anyone out there would like to help, we need donations to purchase the locomotive from the BNSF. 100% of donations will go to the purchase of the locomotive. We are an IRS 501c3 non profit group, and more information about us is on our website www.boulderrail.org

How much of the loco is intact? The earlier reports had the unit stripped, and I'm sure contributions would be more forthcoming for an intact locomotive than a shell. (Of course, proper parties at BNSF willing, it *could* mean getting a "better" engine dropped into the body!)

According to the BNSF, as of today the locomotive is intact, only the number boards and some minor components are gone. (Of course this means the hole in then engine block that sidelined the locomotive in the first place ist still there, but it is a "historic" hole now!)
