Twice now, the D22 brake valves have been stolen from an ex Charlotte Southern passenger car awaiting inspection and interchange with CN in Charlotte, MI. The first set was stolen sometime late last year. A replacement set was installed in June and the nuts staked. This set was stolen very recently. If anybody hears of anything related to this, please let me know.
Thanks
Eric

The Steam Railroading Institute of Owosso, MI would also be very grateful in learning where these brake valves wandered off to. After the 1st set disappeared, we loaned a set of valves to the owners of this equipment to try and get this equipment moving - our loaned set is now missing. Thanks for any and all help.

It's the newer car. The others have UC brakes. This is a very specific item to be taken. Whoever stole them knows exactly what they are. It's not like horns, builders plates, etc.

Probably not be stolen for reuse, but for scrap, so the junkies can get another fix. Check with the local scrapyards.

Midnight brake supply for some freshly shopped units, methinks. Someone knew what they were looking for. Why only take the D22s? UCs unbolt just as easily if you're looking for scrap. You won't get much for them at a scrapyard. D22 is a bit more desirable in the RR community.

Did they take any of the other fresh brake accoutrements?

It is so sad that people involved in such specialized and rare equipment would themselves be thieves.
