Build a locomotive:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/barrigerl ... 0318499902

This shows about the 5th version of the sequential locomotive assembly tour that I used to present at special events and conventions. This version uses the MPI MP36 as the locomotive toured. Sorry, no captions, and no plans to write any now, since this was always done as an informal lecture. The people who would present this kind of program usually do not need any script.

Many other new equipment photo surveys to be posted soon.
Some instructors threw away training aids, I saved them whenever possible.

Did B&M promise to "gladly pay you on Tuesday" for those units?

Edit: Here is the most recent photo I could find of ex-B&M 201, as KCS 2011 in 2020, it has been on the KCS roster for around 35 years now. As I recall, when DO took over the B&M in the 1980s it dropped a lot of the onerous leases the previous owners were forced to sign on the newer power (given that there were questions of their ability to pay) and bought oddballs on the secondhand market, like rebuilt ex-Santa Fe SD-24s and ex-Illinois Terminal SD39s, to go with old Rock Island U25Bs on their Maine Central. Fred Goff photo.

Good question on how they were originally financed. I have not come across a photo of the trust plate.

We posted a CAT 3412 HEP genset walk-around this week:

I decided to donate the entire photo suite of the INSIDE EMD program, posting to the Barriger Flickr site began today, starting with the employee album that was usually shown to end the program:

About 150 images of INSIDE EMD were in R&LHS RAILROAD HISTORY about 5 years ago. If anybody wants to see it in print later on they will need to write captions for the additional images.

Your recollection has some of the right players but is faulty, DO was/is Delaware Otsego corporation (owners of the NYSW and in the past additional lines) which had nothing to do with the Guilford Transportation Industries (later AKA Pam-Am owner of MEC, B&M, ST and former owner of the D&H) outside of being the designated operator of the the D&H after the D&H was cast off by Guilford into bankruptcy.

NOTE: I had 54 e-mail messages in the inbox this morning relating mostly to INSIDE EMD. I am down to typing with four fingers on one hand and I have other inquiries to answer so please be prepared to wait a while for a reply.

The Inside EMD slide show is excellent; what's missing is Preston's wonderful narration and commentary. Those of us who saw him present the show live, are truly privileged.

The ramp was built in sections, assembled by a fork lift. I hope somebody bid on it when they sold the Boise shop tools.

Neat to see inside the Islander. She was built with FM OP's if I am remembering the right boat.

We almost got the job to tow her to NY. Governors Island bought it, it was way too big, and Donjon wound up scrapping it.

The approach at Woods Hole required very quick reversing and power application, and the forward FM had a very bad habit of stalling during the reversal. The two EMD engines were fitted with the largest and heaviest flywheels they built, and could reverse from full ahead very quickly without shaft brakes. The ISLANDER had no further control problems after they were installed.

Posting ISLANDER final day of operations now.

I'm not a boat guy (except for western rivers steam boats) or a diesel guy, but regardless, all this information is interesting. Thanks for giving it a permanent, accessible home.
