Antioch is a small town in California's Central Valley, just south of where the Sacramento River and San Joaquin River meet. Southern Pacific's former west side mainline Martinez-Tracy-Fresno, and Santa Fe's Richmond-Bakersfield mainline, both go through Antioch.

The Antioch Historical Society has preserved and restored caboose ATSF 999069 (all-steel; built by ACF in 1929 as ATSF 1792; one of 315 cabooses rebuilt by ATSF in the mid-1960s for mainline pool service, class CE-1). The historical society did a great job, including a wheelchair-accessible ramp and lift hidden behind the caboose. https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2023/11/11/in-brief-antioch-museum-to-dedicate-1929-red-caboose-on-nov-18/

I gave a "chalk talk" at the Nov 18, 2023 dedication ceremony about the history, importance, use, and decline of cabooses. I've been asked to turn this into a ~10 minute video to show inside the caboose. I'm not exactly overburdened with spare time right now, so....

Has anyone already made a caboose history video? It doesn't need to be specially Santa Fe; any railroad would be fine.

Thanks! - Doug Debs

You might be able to use all or part of a program on DVD by Reverand Ronald McElrath, called "Cabin Fever". It's two hours and twenty two minutes, with examples from approximately 200 different railroads. Revenue service, museums, motels, etc are covered, as well as old films made by the railroads themselves.
