While the other 3 remaining T-1’s have significant histories of their own; 2101 (AFT 1 & CSS), 2102 (Reading Rambles, extensive post-Reading operations, longest in operation), & the 2124 (first T-1 to pull a Reading Rambles, a Movie Star), the 2100 also has many noteworthy historical events in her existence, and can arguable be considered the most historically significant T-1 laying claim to history that can only have occurred once, and can never be repeated as listed below:

(1) The 2100 was the prototype (i.e.-first) T-1 ever built. Anyone familiar in the collector world knows that having the very first one made or issued is the “cream of the crop” in a collection, and usually the most valuable.

(2) 2100 was the only T-1 to double-head with the 2124 and the 2102 on the Reading Rambles.

(3) Pulled the last Reading Rambles (10/17/1964)

(4) Pulled the last Reading steam powered train (also 10/17/1964)

(5) Was the last Reading steam locomotive to leave the Reading property (9/29/1967)

We hope that you will share your 2100 stories, and join ASR for just $35.00/yr or donate in support of the operational restoration of the 2100 to debut as the American Freedom Train 250. We are just $145,000 away from 2100 steaming again! Thank you. www.americansteamrailroad.org

We can also say that she's the most traveled out of all the surviving T1's

Pennsylvania (1945-1967)

Maryland (1967-1989)

West Virginia (1990-1991)

Ohio (1991-1998)

Canada (1998-2005)

Washington (2005-2015)

Ohio (2015-Present)

Forest, do you still have a long term lease on 2100 or do you outright own it now? I know there was originally a lease with Tom Payne's partner in Edmonton, but I haven't heard anymore about it since he gave me the okay to turn the stoker back over to you in St. Thomas.

Greetings! We are still under a lease with with the 2100. While we have made the decision to configure the 2100 as an oil burner again, we have placed all of the coal burning components into storage to protect them. I do hope you get the opportunity to come visit us here once we have the 2100 under steam again. Best, Forrest

Hi all
Yes to have another Reading T-1 under steam again is exciting,, I would prefer to see her as a Coal Burner,,, but sometimes, you have to bent a little,,just to get results..
I have ridden behind Reading & Northern with my friend Bob, twice,, and maybe again this year.. for the third time..
No Reading 2100 may not be burning coal,,, but you have to look it this way,, seeing Main Line Steam,, whether the locomotive, once burn coal, or not... she will be running again.
You have to appreciate the fact the locomotive is running again,,, thanks to the efforts,,of those that put the time in,, JUST to get the locomotive to this point...
No reading 2100,, will be burning oil,,,but appreciate the fact,, she will be under steam,,,once all tests are completed,, and not Stuffed and mounted,, in some park...
Sometimes you have accept change,, coal to oil,, No it is not as Reading Railroad would have wanted,,what is better Stuffed and mounted,,or a Running locomotive.. oil fired... back in Steam.????
