A friend tells me they are working on restoring the turntable in the shop right now that will be installed at Paradise. I think the table is 85 foot from the Illinois Central. Amtrak will build a new station (just a stop, no building) about a mile east of Paradise which will extend the Strasburg ride pararell to the main line. So instead of curving to the left into the junction like it is right now the ride will curve to the right and terminate beyond the second Stock lumber yard facility (used to be called Denlinger's) running east. The turntable will be built in a nearby field next to the stop. They also have plans to install a table at the strasburg end of the ride. The Amtrak station will be on the opposite side of the tracks from the strasburg. Should be really cool when it is done and will be a fresh new experience to an old train ride.

Wow! I was going to ask where they'd put it, but you answered that one for Paradise.

Where is the table going to be placed at Strasburg?

The first plan called for the table to be installed right smack in the middle of the run-around track opposite the strasburg depot but now I'm told it go where the coal wharf now sits in the yard. Not sure how that'll work out.

First of all, I would call Strasburg a "small little tourist railroad."

I think in addition to a turntable, having a wye at each end of the line to turn the entire train would be a good idea if there were enough land.

I also heard they want to tear the engne house down(the one the engines sit in before they pull for the day) and build a roundhouse so they don't have to move the engines around all the time to get to just one engine

Well I think putting the table near the coal wharf would provide good viewing for visitors. Plus it wouldn't impede on the parking lot. Just my two cents though...

Kelly, K.R. Bell, any thoughts...?

I think it would make more sence to keep a "run-around" at Paradise, or make a "wye". I think it would be great to have a turn table at Strausburg though!

I'll defer to the Strasburg Rail Road guys to answer that one.

In the early days, Strasburg pointed out they weren't as long as the PRR but were just as wide (i.e. 4' 8 1/2")
