I have been advised that the rust/corrosion on these EMUs is at an advanced stage. The unit at the far end (#1551) supposedly still has a large hole in the front end where the original W-C-H gong-type bell had been located; one wonders how long it had been sitting in Chicago before it traveled to Iowa.

Update 01-27-2024: Highliners #1506, 1523, 1538 and 1551 have been verified as cut up and scrapped at Boone, IA during late 2023/early 2024, as were CSS&SB cars #102 and 109 and ex-KCC steeplecab GE electric locomotive #703.

Remaining at Boone as of 01-27-2024 are Highliners #1511 and 1628.
