Okay, I'm trying to construct a complete passenger car listing for Denver Railcar, so I'd thought I'd go ahead and list what I have and see if there's any cars I'm missing. Also, any disposition updates/corrections would be helpful.

Also, if anyone could provide the history/timeline of Denver Railcar, and also the extent of their operations. As far as I know, their operations included the Acadian, the South Orient Express on the Mexican American Railway, and the Roaring Fork Railroad (this was a planned operation to Aspen, CO). Apparently, some cars were leased to the Texas Southern, which operated the Texas Limited. At least one car was also leased to the Wyoming & Colorado. Denver Railcar was apparently owned by Randy Parten. Were there any other partners in the operation?

Note: apparently Denver Railcar planned to add "Silver" to many of their car names, but only some cars had the "Silver" prefix applied, the rest simply carried the name suffix. To simplify the listings, all DRCX car names will include the "Silver" prefix.

I can help with a few:

Silver Aspen is on GCR Property in Williams, listed as 'Not Rebuildable'. (Incidentally, on my old records I show the 7033 as 'Not Rebuildable', but IRM thinks otherwise!)

Silver Knight 3365 is a GCR car, in service as the 'Santa Fe'.

Silver Pecan and Silver Spruce are stored on property, listed as 'Rebuildable', for when buisness ever increases to create the need.

There was no middle man on any of the GCR former Southern cars, they bid and won them directly. The 828 did not sell at the auction, and I think MRLX bought it after the fact. Among other things, it was off its trucks and missing the fluting on one side -- considerable work has been done in the meantime to get it moved and the fluting back on.

The wrecked Southern/ARR/DRCX 5208 coach was purchased out of San Antonio, and moved to Gateway Rail in 2007. The car is not owned by Mid America, the marks were used only to move the car. It has a great interior!

SILVER CUP - died an unceremonious death in October of 2011, the fire burned so hot that the dome frames melted and the camber left the frame of the car. It's vitals were harvested prior to dismemberment.

Southern coach 827, Amtrak former ATSF diner 8042 and ACL PS diner Tarboro all died in June or July of 2011 at Gateway Rail Services. Tarboro had been at ITAC along with the former ATSF Amtrak diners 8042 and 8040 (8043 escaped in 2006 to a home in Iowa).

Thanks, Jerry, for the info on Fort Ribault, Herington, El Reno, NYC #61, SAL #6111, SP #6743, and DOTX #223!

I thought the car at Boca Raton was the #6113/#8018, not the #6111/#8016. Can anyone clarify??

Thanks, MRLX1020, for the info on SOU #827, ACL Tarboro, #8040, #8042, and #8043!

Was the #1498/#8043 sold to CBRX?? (My notes show that CBRX owned #1491/#8036.)

What is the current status of #1495/#8040??

Does anyone know if the SOU #817 is still stored in Mount Dora, FL??

Does anyone know when the fire occurred?? During storage after retirement by Amtrak but before sale, or at a later date??

As a side note, does anyone know the current status/location of the other "Chuckwagon" dome built for the Denver Zephyr, #254 Silver Kettle??

CB&Q #254 Silver Kettle to BN #806 (1970, not applied) to Amtrak #9814 (1971) retired 10/1981 sold 1/1982 to Alfred K. Nippert-Gator Rail Tours (GRTX) #9814 sold 1987 to VIA Rail as #518 and stripped for planned rebuild project cancelled due to budget cuts and stored at Montreal sold 12/2006 to MRLX as #254

Does anyone know when the fire occurred?? During storage after retirement by Amtrak but before sale, or at a later date?? Fire was in the early/mid 1980's if I recall from a conversation with Kasten, on the Kosciusko Southern in Mississippi, as Amtrak was looking to hide cars in strange places.

It moved from Montreal to Madison, IL on flat car in 2007. It remains stored at Gateway Rail Services with some plans for service in the future.

My bad... I believe I have that listed wrong and will get it corrected.

More info/clarification:

Our company, DL&W Car Company, Inc., owns the HEP 50' baggage car used on the Acadian last year and presently stored in St. Albans, VT. It is completely Amtrak overhauled (800717)and available for purchase or lease.

Did this car have DLWX reporting marks during use on the Acadian? Was the purchase directly from Amtrak in 1993? Thanks in advance!

One of the cars that is or was on the WMSR was 1365, which is shown in one photo having the WMSR reporting mark, dated 2011...

As for Denver Railcar goes I know of one shot of this car on the Western Maryland Scenic, shown as DRCX 1360, at Cumberland, MD. While it has been mentioned that this car was used on the Acadian I can not find any evidence that this is the case. Every photo I could find of the train shows a Budd baggage car, not a former troop kitchen, as being on the train...
http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=551331

The number 1360 has been listed as being the AMTK number for DOTX 223. The link below is for the earliest pic that I could find of DOTX 223 and is dated for 2008, also taken in Cumberland, MD., showing it having the DOTX lettering... but the reporting mark and number is on the opposite side of the door so it makes me wonder if this is in fact a different car than the one shown in the link above.
http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1252734

I can't help but wonder what the AMTK number of the DOTX car is? It would be great if this car's correct history could be nailed down.

Anyone know about the former MoPac Dome 891. Im trying to find out when the windows that were covered over in the dome were uncovered and who did that and what was involved in doing so. Our museum has the MP sister car 892/ IC 2202 that had the same plated over upper dome window "treatment" We were wondering if the window frames are still under the plate that was welded over or if they were removed. We have pondered putting the upper windows back in but if the window frames are gone, that would present a problem. If anyone has any information as to who converted the 891's windows back, we would love to ask them some questions.
