That was "Nomad" while ROss had her. As Steve said, she is back to being CNJ 303, the wheelchair car at Steamwtown.

At a private home in Bartonsville.

28 is in Scranton on display. My bad, it is #36 in Bellows Falls at Caboose Corner.

C&C 50 ex-B&M 104406 at RR Museum of New England, me thinks

Combine 260 is operable on the Green Mountain

Combine 253 is in Tobyhanna on the "deaccess" list

8050 is at Steamtown

Still in Scranton, me thinks.

Still with Steamtown

Possibly at Steamtown as they have 2 other Rutland boxcars.

Wow, I am impressed!!! We have quite a fountain of knowledge on this board. Thanks everyone for taking a stab at the all-time Steamtown roster. Can we get this compiled into a more permanent list? Ted Miles: how can I get a copy of that 1966 book you mentioned? Another good source is Private Passenger Car Annual, Vol. I (1980) by David Briggs, which lists Steamtown equipment (as well as that of other railway museums) ad naseum. Thanks all and keep that roster minutae coming!!

I was looking into this one myself, the rumor was that Clark's Trading Post has or had it, if they still do nobody seems to know about it. The new database at steamlocomotive.info (which has many outdated entries as we've established) has it listed in North Woodstock, NH. The only lead seems to be a notation that it was sold 04/1986 to a David Clark. The best idea might be to ask a member of the Clark family either at the Trading Post or the Hobo Railroad to find out what happened to it.

Actually, Pat, your talking about professionals here, not Railfans!

The Prince d'Liege is at the Starrucca House in Susquehanna. If it was a tram that lost its car body, then it finally makes sense. A vertical-boilered steam engine built in the 1870s seems antiquated.

Rob, you mentioned rolling stock, since I began working at S-town in 1990, the park has acquired a DL&W gondola, 3 DL&W hoppers, Pullman "Arsenal Tower" operated on ACL, an MDT Steel Reefer, Lehigh Valley caboose, CNJ outside braced wood boxcar, D&H steel boxcar, DL&W wood boxcar, Longterm loaner LV business car 353, Barber single dome tank car, LIRR rotary snow plow, NATX 2-dome tank car, TH&B steam heat car(former NYC tender 5313) and a so-called "milk car" . It looks to trained eyes to be more of an express reefer, but the person who sold/gave it to the park called it a "milk car" It is wooden and somwhat converted into a house or shed. Only the restored cars are featured on the website.

This is the same information as what is listed in Conrad's Directory, since it was published in 1988 and the sale was in 1986.

There is no builder's number listed; just ALCO (Cooke), 1918.

An Edward Clark bought some of the locomotives that ended up either at White Mountain or Clark's Trading Post, but this was the only one bought by a David Clark.

Kurt, Ex-Steamtown "combine" 243, Mt. Sunapee is in reality ex-B&M W3238, ex-246, originally 1246, a 72 passenger coach. It sits in my yard in New Boston, NH undergoing a complete rebuild.

Post subject: Rolling Stock Additions at Steamtown
PostPosted: Tue Oct 01, 2002 9:38 am

Tim,

Good point that is often over looked, the rolling stock collection since the NPS has come on board has actually diversified and is porbably the single biggest improvement project to the collection (outside of the buildings).

Those hoppers are worth their weight in black diamonds. ;-) Many worthy cars languished around Scranton only to be scrapped in the years right before the NPS. The park did a good job getting some local relics, including that tank car.

Want to start a fund raiser to get the TH&B steam car re-painted in her in-service scheme?

The "milk car," if it is a DL&W milk car as I thiunk, would look like a short express reefer with a round roof. I haven't seen it yet. Is it inside?

For a photo (by Jim Boyd) of the former Steamtown "Prince d'Liege" 0-4-0 tram engine at its current home, click on the below link. This is from www.steamlocomotive.info (a new online steam locomotive database that looks promising). Click on the photo to enlarge it. Never mind that it's still listed as being in Scranton, the photo shows it in it's current location.

That milk car is "right at home" in Scranton since it's actually ex-DL&W. I believe it was built in/around 1906. The car came from Ringoes, NJ and was last used as an office (hence its present "converted state") by a freight car service firm that was once located in what is now the Black River & Western RR's 2-stall metal enginehouse. Prior to that, this milk car was owned by the BR&W.

Post subject: Other steam @ Steamtown USA list
PostPosted: Tue Oct 01, 2002 11:42 am

For those (like me) interested in steam off the rails as well as on...

Here's a list of what non-rail steam equipment Steamtown USA had in VT. Again, a fair amount of this stuff came down to Scranton and was disposed of during the auction.

Case traction engine, 7-ton, (??HP).
Buffalo-Pitts traction engine, 2 cylinder, (??HP).
Buffalo-Springfield tandem roller, 9-ton, from Concord NH.
Buffalo-Springfield 3-wheel roller, scarifier, from Barre VT.
Marion model 21 bucket shovel, steel-wheeled, from Ashland NH.
Raymond crane, crawler tracks.
Silsby fire engine, horse-drawn, rotary gear pump, made in 1880.
Amoskeag fire engine, horse-drawn, reciprocating flywheel pump, made in 1890.
Button fire engine, horse-drawn, duplex pump.
Acme walking-beam oilfield pump, from Pennzoil.
Worthington duplex pump, boiler feed service.
Sullivan stationary engine / air compressor, from Unniversity of NH.
Fitchburg stationary engine, 8-foot flywheel, rotary valve, from Stuart-Templeton Co.
Seymour & McIntosh stationary engine, slide valve.
Matteawan stationary engine, vertical, from Western New England College.
Murray & Tregurtha launch (boat) engine, vertical, 2-cylinder compound, from WWI Navy launch.
Ames stationary engine, direct-drive GE generator, from Loomis Institute.
Erie stationary engine, 4X6 size.
Rollins stationary engine, rotary valve.
General Electric multi-stage turbine, cut-away to show to inner parts.
(not steam, but neat!) Rider-Ericson hot-air stationary engine, water pumping service.

As you can see, F. Nelson Blount desired to showcase all types and forms of steam power at Steamtown, not just locomotives. I believe it was mentioned in the book "THE MAN FROM STEAMTOWN", that he even planned for a boat landing at Steamtown to offer some sort of steam boat rides on the river.

Jim Robinson

The DL&W milk car was Sam Freeman's office at the BR&W in the 1968-1972 era. Sam was President of BR&W at the time (also owner of FEC 4-6-2 148, but that is a story for another time). I don't recall where it came from; I suspect it was a DL&W work train car and was acquired at the time of BR&W's founding, in the early 60s.

Pullman heavyweight sleeper "Arsenal Tower" was traded to NPS by Railroad Museum of New England in 1993. In 1991, RMNE traded the CNJ outside-braced boxcar and the DL&W double-sheathed boxcar (now on display inside the roundhouse) to NPS for a CV outside-braced boxcar and a B&M wood caboose (aka C&C #50). The CNJ and DL&W cars were loaded onto TTX flats at Essex in early 1995, and "Arsenal Tower" was prepped for movement on own wheels, and the three arrived at Scranton about two days before the Grand Opening in July 1995. We (RMNE) painted the "A.T." and relettered it so it would look a bit better for the trip.

The B&M "Movie Car" (an 1893 wood Laconia-built coach, converted by B&M to a work combine in 1937)was traded to RMNE in 1997 for the Erie RR Car Shop Models (flat, gon, boxcar).

Hi James,

#5, a 2-6-2T, was originally a T&D locomotive and has been returned to operation on a short segment of the restored T&D line, just outside of Tralee. I have more info if you need it, although it will take a couple weeks as my T&D book is currently in storage.

Best Regards,
Glenn
