Post subject: Bad, bad news in Durango: Fires suspend service

Well, it ain't just the C&TS that's caught up in the fire problem.

Today's Durango Herald reports the D&SNG will, suspend Silverton trains immediately. Trains will run Durango-Hermosa for at a 50% fare cut

Bus service will connect Durango and Silverton next week, with a short diesel trip out of Rockwood. Sounds like is a long-term plan until the fires go out.

120 seasonal workers will be laid off.

The decision will be revisted for possible July 3 excursions.

In 1963, Eastern Pennsylvania was having a drought and the Reading Company operated the last Iron Horse Ramble of the Fall season with FP-7's instead of a T-1. It was billed as the last Ramble ever, but they ran for the 1964 Spring and Fall also.
