I recently completed shipment of my Alco 251 engine related technical collection to the Barriger Library. After a reasonable time for receiving and indexing the Alco material will be added to my previous contributions to the library. These include the personal notes and reference materials from a retired design engineer and a former service manager. I am posting this so that preservationists will know where to locate information in the future. Sorry it was not possible to make scans of everything before it went to the library. EMD questions still come in each week, Alco questions are one a month. Much of this was multi-page staple bound, and just too much of a project for one person working alone to scan one page at a time.

It is preserved, thank the Lord, and in a place where it can be expected to be secure against any kind of 'deaccession' and to receive early and careful curation and -- hopefully -- effective high-resolution scanning.

Thanks, Mr. Cook.

An appropriate destination. Glad you did it, Preston.

Here's the website of the Library:

I think the photo is the approach to CNJ's Jersey City Terminal.

This will be part of collection B-155 in the Special Collections Archive. About 30 linear shelf feet of EMD, GE, Alco, and FM materials have been shipped to the library to date. More than 50 linear feet of EMD, Winton, Cleveland Diesel and Detroit Diesel materials will be moving shortly. If there are 2nd copies they are going to Railroad Museum of New England.

A 13-page 1964 index of the Alco product maintenance instructions is located here:

Barriger Library now has received all of my technical document collections relating to all the locomotive and engine builders, totaling nearly 100 linear shelf feet.
