Out of curiosity I clicked the link to the home page for this newspaper, and at the very top there is an advertisement for the new V&T RR. Do people travel all the way to Nevada from South Africa to ride steam trains? Or is this an example of the sometimes bizarre mis-targeting of web advertising?

Chris.

Not miscalculated marketing but calculated. Tracking software can now follow you as an individual and in real time place ads specific to your interests. This ad may have appeared because you are rail oriented or at least your computer is used that way.

Thieves must have attacked the loco with torches to cut away anything in the way of the red metals. Like what? Steam dome, rods, running gear, journals? For a collection to be reduced to scrap by the owners, it must have been fearful damage. Critical point, has a lesson been learned at the expense of the locomotive?
