Branford Electric Rwy Ass'n. did postpone the evil day a bit by cooperating with efforts of a preservation group that wanted to purchase an adjacent parcel of prime housing development land. I don't know if the Ohio Rwy. Museum had any similar luck.

Which might make sense if one doesn't anticipate any evolution which makes having a lot of capital tied up in real estate and being married to a long narrow bit of land inconvenient, apart from the obvious ways in which ones own property usage is regulated by others whether it is owned or not.

I'd encourage a bit of out of the box consideration about such things as bundling a location with other attractions to build a synergistic tourism base and destination, partnership with other entities such as transit systems for access to existing large quantities of potential customers, and a planned life span for a current mission that leads into other missions.

A remote and inaccessable piece of track through the weeds and scrub, even if owned outright, might hold back a business more than protect it.

Ted, the PLA/Niles Canyon Railway just recieved a 25 year lease from Alameda County. While it is true that any lease with a government agency can be revoked, the continued support by Alameda County, the City of Fremont and the Niles Business District of the PLA's efforts to develop a museum in Niles and operating our railroad in Niles Canyon has been most welcome.

Does anyone have any information as the current status and location of the B&O horse car and coach that was part of the Buckeye Central roster?

The locomotive is a 1948 EMD SW-1. It has a brass bell and a rare Leslie RS5TFX. The locomotive and rest of equipment is still at the Carter Lumber in Avondale, Ohio near the Ohio Central line just south of South Zanesville. The Davenport locomotive and some MOW cars are in Fultonham on the old wye. They recently acquired a 45-tonner #4541 and operate it with the B&O gondola and a recently acquired bay window caboose (ex Family Lines System) moved to Mt. Perry, Ohio as of 2013. As of 2008, Buckeye Central is now Zanesville and Western Scenic Railroad. At this point, they are operating short runs between Coopermill Road and the first bridge east of the crossing in Mt. Perry. They are in the process of rehabilitating the line.
