Hello all,

I'm looking for technical resources on the PRR T1 duplex locomotives and their Franklin poppet valves (oscillating and rotating cams).

After going through the Locomotive Cyclopedias (1944 and 1947 editions), they reference the following issues of Railway Mechanical Engineer, Railway Age, and Baldwin Locomotive Magazine:

PRR T1 Prototypes №'s 6110 & 6111
Baldwin Locomotive Magazine Dec, 1942
Railway Mechanical Engineer - Description Jan, 1943
Railway Age - Description 12-Dec-42
Railway Mechanical Engineer - Test Results Jul, 1945
Railway Age - Test Results 26-May-45

PRR T1 Production Series #5500-5549
Railway Mechanical Engineer - Description Mar, 1945
Railway Mechanical Engineer - Description Apr, 1945
Railway Age - Description 17-Feb-45

Franklin Poppet Valves
Railway Mechanical Engineer Sept, 1939
Railway Mechanical Engineer Apr, 1941
Railway Mechanical Engineer May, 1941
Railway Age 17-Jun-39
Railway Age 1-Mar-41
Railway Age 8-Mar-41
Railway Age 8-May-41

If anyone has these issues and is willing to scan and share the articles, I'd be much appreciative. Further, if there are any resources you can think of that would be useful, please share.

I have the PRR T1 Altoona test plant report, the PRR T&HS Keystone articles, and most other common resources on the T1 locomotive and poppet valves.

Thanks in advance,
Joe

Check the PRR T1 Trust at:

http://prrt1steamlocomotivetrust.org/re ... folder.php

They have a number of sources of T1 info listed and in some cases available for download

Those things didn't have Valve Pilots did they? With modern reexamination of the whole T-1 business tending to indicate that they were better engines than was previously thought and may have been let down by their crews, I wonder if Valve Pilot would have helped.

Joe,

You might try the Linda Hall Library in Kansas City, they have an online document service. They have the RA and RME magazines.
