Patriot Rail acquires scenic railroads in New Hampshire

There is an article in today's Progressive Railroading news about Patriot Rail assuming ownership and operations of the Hobo Railroad and the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad in New Hampshire.

I wonder if this has something to do with the RDCs leaving the Hobo to be moved to the Berkshire Scenic. The timing just seems oddly coincidental.

Weren't there a few Alco switchers and EMD geeps up there?

There still are. Pretty sure the geeps are still in use, the four Alcos might be servicable, but all are stored if I understand correctly. All with New England heritage (Portland Terminal, two Maine Central and one B&M). Two SW1000s and an SW1001 replaced them in service.

Now, I'm not sure if this translates into risk for the Alco's continued existence or not. My gut says probably not, at least for now. Part of my observation might end up being flawed, but if the worst looking pieces of equipment are the Santa Fe Highliners (and even that's a bit of a stretch where the worst is some fading in the Amtrak paint on the car sides), are you going to be apt to cut something up where it's not an eyesore and available space is not really an issue in that setting?
