Do you know the exact dates when Bucksqahuda Western Railroad will be operating its train rides in August or September? It's located at 168-358 Gillen Crossings Rd Kersey PA 15846.

I am acquainted with a a long-time volunteer of this group. His reply is "We run steam the 3rd Sundays in August and September. Note this is a private operation and people do visit and ride but we don't necessarily operate public trips or sell tickets."

Something I've always been curious about. When I was in college in the 70's, I was told about a 2 foot gauge railroad in St Marys, PA. Long before google and GPS, I drove up there and found it.

What I found was the Teaberry & Southern. A different 2 foot gauge railroad. The operators were very nice, gave me a ride, tour of the place etc. I mentioned "I thought I'd heard you had a steam locomotive." The reply was "No, that's the other railroad..." "What?"

Teaberry Southern was a nice railroad, and they had a Brookville loco that I think the factory had refurbished for them. We took a nice ride through the woods, and I think the track ended at the location of the future trestle.

A quick drive across town and we arrived at the Bucksqahuda & Western, which did have a steam locomotive, but was pretty early in the construction stages at that time.

Now my question is this, how did a tiny town end up with TWO narrow gauge railroads. I've found a video of the Teaberry Southern and it looks like it grew into a pretty impressive operation. Sadly, all indications are that it's gone and some of it lives on at the B&W.

Anyone know the backstory? Was this pure chance, or did one owner see the other operation and say "Hey, I want one of those too!" I mean it happens all the time with Weber Grills, but building a two foot gauge railroad because some other guy in town has one? Always wondered what the rest of the story was.

The B&W is an arm of the Bucktail Chapter NRHS--or vice versa. My understanding was that the T&S was two of their members' private backyard operation--Paul & Bill Krellner--and no doubt there was some serious overlap with the B&W, but exactly what I'm not sure. According to online reports, the T&S disappeared between 2014 and 2017, with at least some of the equipment making its way to the B&W.

The Pittsburg Shawmut and Northern's website claims that the annual 'Shawmut Days' event will occur at the B&W on September 17, 2023. I can't post a direct link to their calendar, but it can be seen from their homepage, on the right side:
