Yes, if you are going to be in the Bay area or Northern California then come by and see our 'Sac Brick' Porter operating. (plug plug)This is the first time since we restored it to operation that it will have a real chance to run, at our museum all we can offer it is a demostration run due to the unusual shape of our property. The little thing has more chug in it than you might think. Several weekends ago, our former Crown-Zellerbach diesel ran out of gas on the hill heading down toward the ramey's property (owners of Argent Lumber 2-6-2 #5), and little Sac had to pull it dead up the rather steep grade (about 5%).

I just fixed the photo link here, but the railbus Wilmunder operated is apparently sitting out in Placerville with all of the various railroad equipment there. Spotted by John Goldie a couple of months back (scroll down)Since I'm discontinuing the On Track site from new writings, I will have some time to go through and update/add to all of the articles (several need it). Putting together enough information for the Wilmunder article in particular was not easy, thanks to all those that helped. The great A&W photos are owed to Tony Johnson, who posted one of them on Trainorders. I sent him an e-mail to get permission to use it and he had even more. Half of the photographs on the site are gotten this way, the other are mostly from John.I planned on heading out to Ardenwood for the 'Washington Township Railfair' once again and had heard rumors afloat with the Porter. Now I have an even the more reason to attend.

Ed, you should come visit Andrew Brandon and I at the Nevada County Narrow Gauge museum if you are going to be the area....us California narrow gaugers need to stick together ;)

I realize the original post is 17 years old but I'm looking for information on Hal Wilmunder's equipment that ended up at the Huckleberry RR. The link in Bob's original post is dead but it sounds like some of the other posters have photos and information that they were going to use to update Mr. Kelley's article. Does anyone have a link to it?

Hal's son Les is still living why don't you get in touch with him and ask. When he worked for me he remembered pretty much everything one wanted to know about his dads equipment.

At one time I had several news articles from the Fairbanks News Miner announcing the arrival, erection, and early operations of Tanana Valley Railroad locomotives.

My Hal Wilmunder story is that my mom saw his name in my Live Steam magazine many years ago and told me that she once went on a date with him during high school in Sacramento. It seems that my grandmother and Hal's mother were friends and the date was instigated by them.

A couple of things I found on this locomotive in the Alaska RR archives before the Alaska branch of the National Archives closed.

Dick, thank you for the info and for posting the invoice. We had never been able to positively link the 152 with Skagway and the White Pass. Considering its excellent mechanical condition when it arrived at the Huckleberry, it is unlikely that it saw any use on the White Pass.
