East Broad Top reports on their Facebook page no damage ("as of now") to the railroad despite much rain and flooding and that new culvert and dig work protected the new work that has been done. They posted an impressive photo of the water just a few feet below the Runk road bridge.

Good news from the NH&I. The photo at the beginning of this thread is not on the NH&I RR

They did suffer some water damage but nothing catastrophic. They expect to have all repairs done and be back in service in 10-14 days. Could have been far worse.

Many secondary roads in the surrounding area remain closed due to standing water and/or accumulated debris on the road surface. It will be quite a few days before things return to normal.

Did a post-storm track inspection on the Walkersville Southern Railroad via GE 45-ton yesterday, starting just before noon. The Monocacy River, brown and flowing quickly, was way up and within two feet of the steel spans but the bridge held up perfectly. There were a few trees dropped onto the track by the storm but the line's president and locomotive engineer, Wayne Kirchhof, quickly dispatched them with a chainsaw. Operations will continue on a normal schedule tomorrow (Saturday).

I'm happy to report that with the exception of about a dozen large trees down and a few clogged drainage pipes, the Colebrookdale Branch has escaped without any serious or schedule altering damage. That being said, we did temporarily have a bridge over the Schuylkill River in Pottstown. Our nearest rail is about a quarter mile away from its normal banks.

File comment: Ironically named High Street looking towards Route 422. That concrete arch bridge has a road under it, beneath about 10 feet of water.

Branford (Connecticut) Electric Rwy. didn't operate on Thurs., Sep. 2 out of fear that passengers wouldn't be able to arrive due to highway conditions and restrictions. I had no problem running the trolleys on Fri. Sep. 3, with large crowds of riders.

On a related note, a group intends to release a documentary next year, the fiftieth anniversary of Hurricane Agnes, which was a disaster for the southern tier region of New York and its railroads, and put the Erie Lackawanna into bankruptcy. They have assembled photos and news footage from the period and I'll be curious to see what if anything they have on the EL. https://www.facebook.com/agnes72
