A US built Pullman Car "kit" that was delivered to Britain in 1906 and ran for the London, Brighton and South Coast/Southern Railways until 1932, before ending up as part of a dwelling in Selsey, on the South Coast, has been "rescued" in the last week for use as a dining area at a Hotel.

Details of the car here....

Facebook post showing its move (which you don't need to be a FB Member to see - assuming it works!)....

Is this similar to the american pullman car that the Bluebell has in their collection? https://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/blue ... car33.html

That appears to be from an earlier built US batch for a different Railway and was cut in two at some stage as well...

More interesting is the fact that there are another two bodies of that type that survive as living accomodation in Selsey, the same place that the 1906 built one came from!

The real important example of a US built Pullman car is one of the Midland Railway examples built in 1873, of which the body of one has been saved, but it's in a terrible state now..

Surprisingly, another body from one of those still exists, as part of a dwelling at Selsey.....!

What in the world is the connection that has resulted in so many american built pullman bodies ending in Selsey!?

I think the place became an "in" location for seaside living in the 1920's/early 1930's, just about the time those cars were withdrawn from service. A search on that Carriage Database site shows 31 bungalows still there which were constructed at that time using "normal" LBSCR passenger car bodies, and there are even 2 former Pullmans with Jackson & Sharp bodies there as well!!
The bodies were a quick way of obtaining something convertable into living accomodation rather than having to build a residence from scratch - plus they were usually quite cheap.

Jaywick-on-Sea was an equivalent seaside settlement near to where I live which dates from that same era, though I'm not aware of any railway bodies ever being used there.

We have a couple of trolleybuses in our local Transport Museum collection (one of which dates from 1923) that only made it into preservation after being used as living accommodation for a number of years! (40 years in the case of the 1923 one)
