That's not what I said, kiddo. I said that $400 in damages would total it out. Not that there wasn't more in damages, which would be obvious to anyone who knows how these Jags are constructed.

And it doesn't really matter whether the 'damage' can be repaired much more cheaply than the underwriters calculate. That's a consequence of the sometimes shockingly low market resale value of these cars. What they'll do (if they like you) is to pay the market value -- which can be surprisingly high for low-mileage examples, and many Jags are inherently low-mileage for ... reasons -- and then let you buy back the 'carcass' for what can be a remarkably small amount.

But I agree, you certainly won't be fixing that example easily unless you do your own work and know where to source parts cheap.
