Earlier this month, the folks up in Chisago City, Minnesota added another interesting car to their roster. The RPO/baggage/coach was one of five originally built in 1930 by St. Louis Car for the Chesapeake & Ohio. Numbered 400-404, some of the cars were used by the C&O in Virginia and also on their Chicago Division through Indiana. The car that was recently moved to Chisago City was originally C&O 402 and was one of two sold by the C&O in 1949 to a used equipment dealer. From there they went to the Gainesville Midland but just a year later, the GM sold them to the Soo Line where 402 was renumbered as Soo 397. The Soo used the cars on mixed trains and number 397 was eventually renumbered as Soo #56. Eventually the car became X-579 when it was converted into a kitchen/diner/bunk car when transferred to company service. A couple of photos by Erik Thompson of the car before its move to Chisago City are included herein.

They're getting quite a collection up there. Among other things I think they have a Russell plow out of North Dakota.
