This is what I'm talking about, Les. This is a successful and beautiful preservation effort which magnifies what we are trying to accomplish.

Dennis - When I first saw the first photo of C&NW box car #777, I thought that this group had preserved the car! I quickly realized that Lake States is involved in the preservation of photo collections, which is a noble and needed endeavor. When Lawrence Foods of Elk Grove Village, Illinois donated C&NW box car #284 to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, there were two other steel 40' North Western steam era box cars a bit further down that same siding. I thought perhaps number 777 was one of those cars but obviously not. I'm not sure if IRM, or some other museum, was able to save one of those other two cars. If those cars were not preserved, I don't know if any other Chicago & NorthWestern 40' steel steel boxcars exist.

Why should it make a difference? It's only the foamers who are worried about preserving all the cars from their railroad. To those of us who are more interested in tracing the development of technology, if one Pullman-Standard PS-1 is preserved somewhere, then that box is checked, and we're off to find something different to preserve, to fill in the blanks.

Impressive work on the C&NW boxcar! You have an outstanding operation there in North Judson.

Thanks for the kind words on the C&NW box car. But you folks down there in Keokuk could REALLY have two tremendous photos for a Before/After display of the Union Depot located there!

Thanks Richard. Your before/after photos of the Keokuk Union Depot, NS3322's before/after shots of Mississippian 2-8-0 76/"B&O" 476 and before/after pix of C&NW boxcar 284, are prime examples of what could be on the Home Page of Railway Preservation News, as proposed by Ross Rowland on 1/15/19 in his thread "First Impressions". I agree that RyPN needs a new photo (or before/after shots) on that page. These 3 examples mentioned are just the "tip of the iceberg" concerning what has been done by railroad preservationists. Let's hope that RyPN can eventually get the Home Page "spiffed up".
