More info about the locomotive was posted on the Advanced Steam Traction Trust’s website today.

The locomotive is still owned by Transnet, South Africa’s rail freight operator, and is leased to Ceres Rail Limited, who also operates 2 other former SAR steam locomotives.

The good news is that the group hopes to restore at least some of the removed Wardale modifications to the locomotive during the upcoming dry season when steam operation is not permitted.

Videos of first revenue run of the RD today are starting to get posted to the net. Ceres hosted a three day round trip from Cape Town to Robertson this weekend.

The exhaust does not seem to have too much starch in it.

Glad to hear they may bring back some of the advanced modifications.
