I am looking for information on Louisiana Cypress Lumber Co. #1.

The engine is a small 1921 Porter and was last owned by Samuel Warren Frye of Griffin, GA. The engine was "displayed" at the Roosevelt Railroad Museum outside of Griffin.

Mr. Frye passed away in November, 2014, and no one that I have contacted seems to know anything about the locomotive.

As president of the Southern Forest Heritage Museum of Long Leaf, LA, I would like to find out about the present ownership of the engine, and to research the possibility of it being obtained for our museum. It is featured in a portion of our video presentation which was photographed on the Louisiana Cypress RR.

I remember the engine from 40 years ago, when it was located on the banks of Brays Bayou in Houston and owned by Dael Campbell.

If there is anyone out there that can give me any information on the current status and ownership of the engine, I would be most grateful.

Been a while since I read anything about this locomotive so going by memory. Think she was completely "field stripped" and was a pile of parts. Not that it couldn't be saved but that was the "condition". Same happened to LCLC #2 which was sold at auction last summer in Wi. Just looked at the tender and boiler for the #2 this afternoon. Dave Lathrop is probably one who might know something about its current situation. I hope all is well with the parts kit. She was totally cute and like the #2 could be put back together. There is very little to put back together so it is not as bad as some might make it out to be. The lost parts syndrome is the bugger in cases like the LCLC #1 and #2. The #3 which apparently never ran or if it did not much on LCLC is still intact. Hope to hear more on this subject.

Regards, John.

Sorry John, I've never laid eyes or hands on her. I'd be happy to have her in my driveway to tinker with, though. Perhaps Jason has something to share, his knowledge of every bit of rusty iron in Georgia is impressive.

I have pulled together everything that I can find on the internet, and basically come up with nothing current. Mr. Frye's obit did state the following:

"He was an avid train historian and also began restoration of the "# 1 Steam Engine", a steam locomotive from 1974-2007."

He was a member of TVRM also according to the obit, so I am hoping that someone out there can give me some info of any kind as to the loco, or contacting his family etc.

Since John Gramling was the one to take the photo for the steamlocomotive.info website, maybe ask him? If anyone might know, maybe it's him...

In that thread I found this:

There are too many weeds to see if #119 is a 2-6-2.

You can see it's a 4-6-0 in this photo:

Excellent find Steve! That's a nice looking engine. I can never understand why folks go to the trouble and expense of transporting and parking an engine, then let it rot.

Their magical belief systems are replaced with reality and the laws of physics once they start to actually work on them.

Thanks to Andrew Durden at the Southeastern Railway Museum, one of the current owners of Louisiana Cypress #1 contacted me through SFHM this morning and we discussed the current condition of the engine as well as its future (so far as any of us can see). The locomotive is safe, although in a disassembled condition, and so far as the owners have determined, they have managed over the past year to locate, transport and store all of the pieces in a single location. It is their decision as to what to do next.

Hi,

I purchased 22 acres in Northeastern GA for a live steam railroad and a retirement place in 1987.

Due to family problems (Dad dying leaving me needing to support Mom and Mom coming down with cancer c2010) and other problems (loosing my job in 2004 due to health problems [brain tumor]), my dream for the property ended November 1, 2016 when the property was sold for back taxes (I was not able to pay the 2009-2016 taxes). I purchased the property for $22,900 and received $15,600.

I had the property up for sale since about 2002 and it would not sell. I lost most of my investments in the stock market about 2003-4. All my IRA and 401K was used to survive with the Feds taking their 10% penalty off the top. My only pension is about $2,900 / year.

I am still a year or so away from being able to claim Social Security (at 75%).

Sometimes you just get a bad hand and your plans can not happen. Maybe the fellow who owned the loco had great plans and then was thrown a few curve balls that he was not able to recover from.

Any word on the green Porter and speeder also on the property? I remember them being listed for sale a while back.
