I've done some searching but have been unable to turn up anything so I thought I would ask here. Has anyone written a history of the Miniature Railroad Company or Cagney Locomotive Company? Are there records of the locomotives sold in some archives?

Thanks in adviance,

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

You could try Wasatch Railroad Contractors. I think they pretty much are the Cagney people these days or at least hold the license to build them.

Tom:
I am not aware of one concise history having been written on the history of Cagney, however, some excellent articles can be found in Live Steam & Outdoors Railroading magazine. A couple of folks who surf RyPN are also treasure troves of information and may chime in here. Little Railways of the World has a bit of history, but the book does tend to take some liberties. I have heard also that a book may finally be coming together on the history of the Cagney firm. I am not aware of any records of the locomotives that have been built, in fact we are still discovering products that were largely unknown including a Cagney version of the UP M-10000 which popped up recently.

Feel free to send me an email and I can provide what I have. I grew up around a Cagney, and even had a chance to run the Strasburg Cagney well before it make its way to Strasburg. Today I own a “relative” of a Cagney, in fact Strasburg is building a new boiler for it.

Jeff Terry is currently writing a very deep history of the family and the locomotives. It has been my great honor to help proof read the chapters. Very well done. I think the target date is the end of this year.

There have been articles in Live Steam in the past concerning the Cagney's, but there hasn't been anything in book form since Cap Shaws book

It's true that I've been working on an exhaustive history of Cagney Brothers for about three years now. I can't take credit for all the research; I've had a lot of help from people who know and love these early live steam trains. And thanks to a gentleman in Maine, I now have about 100 pages of new material to pour through. I can't wait to get started!

Edit: John Rimmasch is the guy that got me started on this project. He let me run this when I was in high school. I've never been the same!

A good starting point for anyone researching Cagney would be this rather recent reprint of an early catalog (with much additional material)

Cagney's Locomotive Works, by Francis Orr
