No, that's perfectly common and there's nothing wrong with it. It happens because spammers and scammers use automated scripts to scrape Craigslist for phone numbers to work scams on (often by TXT), and users are trying to defend themselves by making their phone number readable only to humans. Of course Craigslist has tried to address that with their own anti-scrape obfuscation, but people haven't adopted it or don't trust it.

I just called due my own curiosity and funny enough it appears to be a credible listing after all. Apparently some guy's girlfriend put her up to posting the listing and she knows absolutely little about it. However she did say her boyfriend owns the property including the roundhouse, turntable and sand tower buying it from the D&H after they went "bankrupt" back in the 80s. If any of you want to call I recommend it, it does reason to be a a serious listing and I believe anyone here looking for an actual turntable can benefit,

After you buy that, perhaps you'd be interested in some nice swamp land in Florida?

After you pay $110K for that turntable, give me a call. I have a nice turntable pit, ready to be installed, for only $25K. (Some assembly and digging required)

OK, so it may be a legit listing, but how in the heck does anyone get the guy to drop one of those ones in the price? $10K would be a much better price.

The person on the phone said so, so it must be true!

Believe that and think the price is reasonable? Then I have a great little FM locomotive sitting down in Galveston that I can sell you.......

For that price I would want to make sure it's in working order. Could we visit the place and take it for a spin or two?

Cameron, wht did you not clear up what the 2-700 locomotives was (or were). If it is something someone familiar with railroads ought to know, this inquiring mind wants to know.

She mean't 120-700 ton locomotives. Apparently the roundhouse was used by the D&H to store its Alco RS-2/3 road switchers back in the day and was the base of operations for its Napierville Junction subsidiary. Furthermore she said it should be able to hold any medium scale steamer you'd find in operation today most presumably a 2-8-0. Accordingly the motor is still reasonably intact and yes the table can still spin a 360. Like I said before, giver her a call yourself and see what's going on,

Unless there's been a very recent development, this turntable isn't operational.

The pit has always been overgrown since I discovered it, with no evidence of it having been moved in quite a few years and little reason to think that anyone would even have attempted it.

Hi,

My opinion is that this is someone who thinks old == high value. Not aware of the scrap market or other items.

Oh will.

Still not sure what that means. A Big Boy is only 600 tons or so... Can this table fit a Big Boy???

Looking at Google Maps, the roundhouse and turntable are located on Chapman Street in Rouses Point. I rummaged around on the tax assessors page on the Clinton County, New York website and determined that there’s only one tax parcel along that street large enough to be the one in question. If this lady’s boyfriend name matches the name on the tax roll, then this might be legit.

So they want more for the turntable than the tax assessor says the turntable, roundhouse AND 8 acres of land are worth.

LOL!

I suppose the tax assessor has no idea what it's worth either. I suspect he's much closed to reality though.

The problem is that this fellow knows it's a railroad item. He also knows that if you were to have a brand new one built, it could conceivably be $100K or more. But that doesn't mean the old one is.

It's like finding and old car in a barn. Is it a rare and priceless antique, or is it an old Pinto? He doesn't know, so he's going with the one-off Mercedes price.
