About proving a negative...
The internet has spawned a crazy backwards logic concept for 'making a point' which is now a staple that apparently has served the Moon landing hoax and Holocaust Denial pushers quite well:
1. Declare your idea as an absolute, and 'proven'
2. Provide no such actual proof to support point # 1
3. Shoot down anyone who says anything the contrary and demand they prove that the denial is wrong
4. Dismiss any evidence against your premise, with no plausible reason to do so
5. Then, declare you've won every argument

The only claim of proof so far in this Nazi gold train story is the team of “experts” claiming to have proven that the train is not there. It is not a question of their evidence. It is that they have provided none.

However, if they provided evidence in the form of an competent magnetometer survey that shows no significant anomaly, then I would consider that to be proof that no train is there. There would be no point in digging up the site to see if it contains a train.

If some SS guards at the end of the war ran a train into a tunnel and then collapsed the tunnel on it with explosives, its probably more likely that the train is full of corpses.

That thought crossed my mind, too, but at that stage of the war, they wouldn't have bothered with something so elaborate. They'd have just found a good cut the people couldn't get out of quickly, brough up a MG crew with a MG-42, then hosed them, much like near the end of the movie, "The Train"...

I WIN! There is no train!!!

wait what...they found something...

...................

on the possibility of corpses...The Nazi was using prisoners to do their work building the tunnels, if they died, they just grabbed another prisoner and forced labor, I would think there could be that possibility, expect anything, or nothing.
A co-worker where I work is quite a bit of a trivial info on the Nazis. We sometimes jabber this and that about that regime.

You can't have some kind of "meeting" and say "nothing is there" thats just not working here when the Polish officials themselves did some satellite imagery and say they found something present.

Show us your non-proof Mr. Scientist. No scientist works without hard evidence to prove/disprove. Just sayin does nothing.

Yes, this does have the flavor of “the scientists have spoken, and we must believe them.” But I am also a little disappointed with the treasure hunters. I thought they were going to come through with something really compelling, and it does not seem that way. Their earlier images were more evocative than the final one. I cannot see anything but an abstract pattern in the final image.

In one article, it says that the treasure hunters are now seeking permission from the land owner to dig there. What is that all about? I had assumed that no digging would be allowed now that the scientists have spoken.

I think the dig has to be protected with cooperation of the government/owner and protection. I don't care when they wanna dig, I heard they would wait till spring when the winter weather is over. Any other nonsense from unrevealed info doesn't jive to me, if your gonna say something, back it up. Its not a secret anymore.

And if it was done with the complicity of the Polish civil authorities, "discovering" it, even after all these years, has the potential to embarrass someone who is (or was) well known in government.

If it involved the Soviet army, it has the potential to become an international incident, along the lines of the Katyn Massacre. Somehow, I doubt the Polish authorities want to be tweaking Putin's tail at the moment.

Lots of possible reasons why something that is buried should remain so.

not with possible explosives involved, I think the possibility is there explosive are present, booby trap or otherwise. Its got (presumably) the gun turrets, that doesnt rule out explosives onboard. In a war, in a hurry, do you care to remove them?

Aging mortars we've seen could go off anytime, its better to dig it out properly and clear it and safe it.

With the arrival of spring, the "finders" are in negotiations to start digging exploratory shafts to see what is really underground near Walbryzch, Poland. Apparently, the military has already given permission and the only holdup is the railway.

Local residents seem to be very much in support of the search, as they have protested the delays, even waving shovels in the face of police.

No matter what, if anything, is found, this continues to be a pretty interesting story.

Funny how this story dropped off as fast as it came up to start with.
I was wondering what was going on there.
You know what'll happen if they find nothing noteworthy there, people will say that, "Well, it was just not right there, but that gold train is still out there somewhere!"

Last fall, it seemed that the Polish authorities did not want this search to go forward, so they hired experts to prove that there was nothing to find. There seems to be some mysterious conflict in motives surrounding this search.

How about :

Treasure hunters go to Polish government.
Agreement struck.
Something leaks.
Story goes "atomic".
Polish government tries to "prove" a negative.
Spring comes and work at site is possible.
Treasure hunters start again.

Last fall, the Polish government set up a process to test the prospect of the buried train. The plan was to let the treasure hunters run a new imaging test, and let some independent experts conduct their own test. I don’t recall if anybody ever explained how the results of the two tests would be evaluated.

The experts claimed that their test proved nothing was there, which leads to the obvious conclusion that either nothing is there or that their test failed to disclose the lost train. Nevertheless, the media reported only that no train is there, without a thought of questioning the accuracy of the test.

Yet we have nothing to prove that no train is there. Either the imaging equipment may have been ineffective or the operating technique may have been flawed. It is also possible that the experts found strong indications of a lost train, but reported that they found no such evidence. Still another possibility is that the experts never even performed a test, but just reported that they did and that it found nothing. In my opinion, there was a motive to put an end to the public curiosity for some reason. Some important people appeared to have a stake in the premise that the whole story was a hoax. So the expert test may have been a ploy to cement that conclusion.

I have not seen any news report showing the graphics of the expert test that is said to prove no train is there. I would think that some graphic indications would exist in the search data even if it failed to indicate a lost train.

What might have offset the experts’ conclusion would have been a compelling imagery produced by the amateur treasure hunters in their final test done in conjunction with the expert’s testing. Earlier last year, the amateurs produced ground penetrating radar images that were remarkably compelling. Yet there appeared to be no way to rule out the possibility that their images were simply a graphic hoax. Indeed, if the experts’ expertise, technique, and testing actually was active and capable of imaging the site, and yet found nothing of interest, it would seem impossible for the armatures to have found the images that they displayed to the public earlier last year.

Anyone, who does this type of test can repeat it later, and probably get a more refined result by improving their search technique. So, when given the opportunity to conduct a final, official test last fall, I would have expected the amateur hunters to have produced a graphic result that was even more compelling than their amazing graphics from earlier in the year. Yet, I don’t recall seeing anything at all compelling from their last test, last December when the final news of the two independent tests was made public. I do recall seeing the results from earlier in the year being in the news accompanying the amateurs’ final test.

Therefore, my overall conclusion is that the final site image survey done by the experts hired by the government; and the final site image survey done by the amateur treasure hunters—both surveys— proved absolutely nothing. The result would be the same as if neither test happened.

Remember that ground penetrating radar results- particularly at depths approaching the limits of the equipment's range- are highly influenced by groundwater conditions.

It is very possible that the "finders" obtained a very clear result to produce the published images in a time when conditions were ideal, but due to different moisture conditions were unable to produce anything but murky, unclear images last fall.

I agree that somebody in the government seemed to have a great interest in making this whole thing go away. Maybe that shovel in the garden shed started calling his name, LOL.

These guys have to be pretty sure there is something interesting down there, to put themselves through the public scrutiny, ridicule, and cost of this exercise. Nobody would do that as a hoax with no escape plan. I, for one, would love to see them proven right. If not a train, at least a line of trucks and armoured vehicles to explain their previous radar results.

We'll see before long, I guess.
