Apparently the finders may face charges for not obtaining permits prior to their search:

http://www.thenews.pl/1/9/Artykul/222433,Nazi-gold-train-claimants-could-be-punished-for-breaking-Polish-law

The article also states that sappers from the Polish military will be on the site Monday, now that the brush and trees have been cleared. Their job will, no doubt, be a bit less nerve-wracking, since none of the forestry workers were blown up by ancient land mines...

No word yet as to when actual excavations might start.

This story seems to be moving forward in a methodical fashion. If it seems to be erratic, it is because the news coverage keeps reaching out for any new angle, and these become distractions. The recent coverage of the treasure hunters facing jail time is an example of news reaching for any new angle. Recently, there was an article with an interview of the treasure hunters. I found them to seem fairly credible. I think they know what they are talking about, and are not pushing a hoax for publicity. Although this article too includes an odd complaint by one of the treasure hunters who says the government’s plan to excavate one meter will not be deep enough to reach the train. Obviously, the plan is to continue digging after the one-meter dig shows the site to be free of mines.

A few weeks ago, the news carried a new graphic showing the railroad tunnels and/or trackage apparently once connected to the active railroad there today. But as usual, the information and its implications are not entirely clear. One thing that it implies is the presence of sealed portals where tracks diverged from today’s active line and headed into tunnels. As I recall, however, it is not clear what are tunnels and what are cuts, although the most recent consensus seems to be that the train is in a cut that was buried.

Once the one meter dig is completed, a logical next step would be to put away the shovels and either drill toward the suspect location or bring in an excavator to dig a test pit, regularly testing by GPR or magnetometer to keep track of what they may be approaching.

The finders are, no doubt, nervous that a "convenient excuse" may be found to abandon the dig before reaching what they believe lies below. Their continued interest indicates this is not a hoax, and they truly believe in their claims.

Obviously, an army's main purpose isn't to dig for treasure- at what point will civilian forces take over the work, possibly with the military keeping an eye on possible explosive or chemical hazards, and ready to secure any weapons that might be found?

It's good to see at least one newspaper is still watching the story.

OK... a three weeks ago, polish authorities started to drill to see what might be in the tunnels. They said news would be released the following week, which apparently never happened.

I just found an interesting Dutch- language news report which was published this morning, and which contains some interesting photos... genuine or not, I cannot say, but somewhat interesting...

Has something been leaked by searchers, or has somebody been exceptionally creative... note the lack of tarnish on the silver, but being protected from air in a tightly sealed crate could conceivably account for that.

http://www.telegraaf.nl/binnenland/24652869/__Mysterieuze_foto_s_van_nazitrein_in_Polen__.html

Now, I don't speak or read Dutch, but thanks to Google Translate we can see the gist of the article...

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, shows up from other sources.

Mysterious photographs of Nazi train in Poland
Jolande van der Graaf
AMSTERDAM -

There are enigmatic pictures surfaced of a, in a Polish tunnel shaft parked Nazi train loaded with wooden crates, filled with possible silver bars.

De Telegraaf got on 5 September this year captured images earlier this afternoon skewed. By whom and taken at any location in Poland the photos is unclear. Perhaps the images of illegal treasure hunters. There's no telling whether the train on the photos the infamous "gold train" which is in the Polish town of Walbrzych (the former German Waldenburg) would be blocked and which since last summer is much to do.

According to experts, the train on the pictures actually called a "Panzerzug 'from the Third Reich. On top of the colossus rows of stacked wooden boxes. Some are pushed out of the train and smashed. On the ground, scattered dozens of silver bars. One of the pictures shows a close-up of a bar. Reportedly announced later today in Germany more about the mysterious pictures.

Train full of Nazi gold

Last summer revealed the Pool pjoter Copper and German Andreas Richter - co-owners of a company that operates mines - in front of the Polish authorities that they had a Nazi train full of gold discovered in a mountain near Walbrzych in Lower Silesia.

Both claim to have been the location on the track, after someone had made on his deathbed testimony on the train. According Copper and Richter they have special equipment made a bottom scan in the mountain region which shows that an underground train with a length of about one hundred meter. The train would the Nazis have been run in a tunnel when the Soviets were approaching the area in 1945. Copper and Richter to ten percent of the proceeds.

The Polish army has recently scoured the area for mines, chemical weapons and radiation and then released. It is not yet known if and when the local authorities will undertake search attempts.

Myths

For decades, legendary stories about trains full with the Nazis stole away precious metals, jewelry, paintings and other valuables. The trains would be blocked by the end of the war by Hitler's vassals in the mountains with huge tunnel systems of the Nazi project Riese in Waldenburg. According to tradition, the entrances to the tunnels are then blocked by blowing them up with dynamite.

Photo: unknown In Poland itself, they get out. The Polish newspaper Fakt went with the mysterious images of the Panzerzug along the national railway museum in Warsaw. There it was found that it is a German diesel locomotive ' Panzertriebwagen 16 '.

The Poland have such a monstrosity in their collection. But that the train on the pictures – which in many details different from the train in the museum – not really is, dare not for the experts. The ' train ' museum fell after World War II in the hands of the Soviets out there things from tore down or set up. On the other hand, is also not excluded that images of the train of the museum website are met and in the computer are edited into the now turned up photos.

The Polish journalists had game-expert on the photos. This expert saw no typical deviations by Photoshopping and close out that images from a computer game.

Though he was the strange exposure on. Moreover, there is nowhere to see damage of an explosion with which the Germans the entrances to the tunnels under project-Riese would have let collapse.

The bars from the wooden boxes look more like silver, then gold. It is also striking that the camouflage sailing on the train is spotless. And that after seventy years. That the wooden boxes don't seem to be affected by the ravages of time, according to insiders to explain. Formworks for weapons and other objects were extensively modified with oil, making them more often are found virtually intact or discolored.

The photos on the Telegraaf site look rather suspect to me - no distinct coupling gear (hook/chain) though the buffers are there - rather good paintwork for 70 years in a (damp?) tunnel, and rather an overkill in the application of Balkan crosses !

Would appear to be due to the over use of Photoshop rather than genuine photos.......

Can't imagine a Dutch newspaper would get an exclusive on this sort of thing either, as it would be plastered all over the Polish media first, I would have thought.

no, I am not going to believe those pics are from the suspected gold train, it is thought the train was parked and buried, and not run into a tunnel. Someone who might have got in there and picked up silver bars etc etc is really suspect. Nobody has shown pictures of excavations and camera shots of the probing digs. Gaming technology has evolved so well you could have super realistic scenes and someone could easily render this up.
A story like this makes me think of some sensationalists like the Tablod papers who's go plenty far to generate a fake news story just for the attention and money making.

Take this report as a grain of salt till better info shows up.

How is there even a discussion if these could be real or not. You'd have to be blind not to see these are just screenshots from somebodies GMOD map from some random third person shooter.

I'm not even remotely suggesting that these are legit, I only copied it from the Dutch news site.

For at least a month, I Googled “Nazi gold train” every day and there was always a new story. But for most of October, there is nothing new in response to the Google search. Everything about the story seems plausible and credible. But there has always been the undercurrent implication that the Polish government finds the whole adventure to be somehow inconvenient. Perhaps such an exciting call to action is just fundamentally unattractive to a bureaucracy. Maybe they will hold off on the shovels and spend money on government studies to explore the possibility of the legend and the feasibility of how to deal with it in the future.

Yes, the markings are much larger than you'd find on a German armored train or armored vehicle. They should be about 2/3 to 1/2 that size.

sounds like very careful work. Sound like they are still cautious for booby traps but they may need to find the best spot to start a dig, so they might still use short deep radar tools or whatever detection for anything.
