Dept. of Corrections:

The 1943 order for 1200 Troop Sleepers apparently had wood sash as built. These are the cars with the centered step well and trap door under the side access door. They also have the "tabbed" side sill construction.

The 1945 order of 1000 cars had metal sash, either stainless steel or aluminum. These cars have a fabricated "stirrup" style access step (like what would be under a baggage car door) under the side door, without the step well. They have a straight side, full-depth side sill.

You are right that there were two different orders of Pullman Troop Sleepers; the first with the step wells and the second without. But I believe that the kitchen cars were built by other than Pullman; AC&F perhaps?

That may be true... but besides the point, which was you can't talk about a generic "troop sleeper", you have to realize there were two different orders of sleepers, plus the kitchen cars that all get lumped into that generic description. I see that Howard has just confirmed that one order of sleepers had wood sash.

I miss my old Craftsman single cutter molding head (actually still have it, but no table saw). It was easy to grind a custom knife when you didn't have to match a set of three, and the single knife cut well enough if you fed slow. Grind the corner with the round nose into the knife with some extra clearance on the 90* side so it doesn't rub and burn, mold the profile on both edges of a bunch of sticks like Dave suggests, change to a hollow ground blade and cut the finished molding off.

Some sash I've worked on the bead was attached with small screws, but IIRC (and it's been a long time) the Pullman sash used brads.

The ones I've seen with screws had turned into wide brads over time anyhow. I use brads in an air gun now.

Thanks for the info guys and the verification on the wood sashes Howard P.

Dennis I know the wood bead you are talking about. You can buy it, albeit pine, pre-milled at the big box home stores like Menards. I used it on our cabin cupola sliding windows since I used super thick safety glass. It's something like 1/8 bead.

So, it sounds like standard window glazing or the wood bead on the exterior should work.

Adding a couple pics of what we got when it got here.

Thanks again!
Bill
