Not unless it happened before 1979 when the Pacific Locomotive Association rescued SP 1269 from a park in Richmond California and restored her to service in time for Railfair 1981 in Sacramento.

And so I Googled the 618 and found that it was rescued in around 1970 so it certainly beat us to the mark.

SP 4449 and T&P 610 were both pulled off of display and operated before 1979.
Placed on display in 1909, EP & SW #1 was pulled from display in 1938 for the well known movie “Let Freedom Ring”. For the record, EP&SW #1 survived scrap drives for both world wars. In Lafayette, LA, my understanding is the SP 743 is the second locomotive cut up there. During WWII another locomotive was cut up. It is my understanding several other locomotives that were lost due to the scrap drive in WWII. More recently there were several 0-8-0’s from a steel plant that were cut up about 1990 for parts. I believe one or two survived and are at the IRM.

Doug -

This one I question. "Reported" to be undergoing restoration but I have never heard WHO is doing it there in Quincy or exactly WHERE it was taking place. Was the 8305 ever actually moved out of Galt?

C&O had the last remaining heavy mike stored waiting for a home until sometime in the 70's and was finally scrapped along with another 2-8-4. I think there was a thread on this not too long ago.

It wasn't Ohio, but Michigan.

The 4-4-0 mentioned earlier that was scrapped during a WW2 scrap drive was first placed on display near the Lafayette LA station in 1923. It was a rare engine built by Niles in 1876 and bore the name "Sabine." It was used on Morgan's Louisiana and Texas railroad, later the Louisiana Division of the SP and I think the oldest section of the SP, starting life as the New Orleans Opelousas and Great Western.
