A good proverb in my book, and as I had a spare set of lockers from the caboose we demolished and salvaged in Cheyenne last year (UP 2455 1909) I hauled them to the house in many pieces and am rebuilding them into my rollaway toolbox, complete with icebox which is the door on the far right. It has the added advantage that you can sleep on the bunk on top !

I'd have found a way to install them in our house. They look great, and it's a simple, resourceful step in preservation.
Nice.

Today I got the 1909 cupboards to painting stage, feels good to utilize these poor old cupboards from UP 2455

I occasionally perform with different orchestras at Princeton University's Richardson Auditorium. There was a staff member there, since retired, who had constructed in his office a caboose interior similar to that pictured. He said that it actually made good use of the space he had available and was really a pretty efficient layout. He used new lumber and grab irons and other hardware salvaged from freight cars. Unfortunately, when he retired the 'office' went with him. I must say that I did quite a double take when I first saw it.

Lockers have for the most part got two coats of Caboose dark Green and Caboose Light green, I am finishing them in the post 1928 scheme of split greens, pre 1928 they were all Green Chromate with caboose red ledges and bunk top, left to do now is the 6 inch high black section on the bottom of the top cupboards and the ledge between top and bottom cupboards.
The camera flash makes the light green look washed out but its in fact more lime green than it looks.

Tonights shot shows the black painted and the cushion in place on the bunk. almost there, need a few latches and a handle for the cooler , interior wood on the back of the cooler and a metal ice tray.
