How about the CB&Q painting their fan trip engines in gold paint way back in the day? That always looked really odd to me, to see shots of that...

You guys have it all wrong. What he should do is chop the cab off and make it a B-unit. There are 3 cab units left. Then he should paint it in Pennsy Tuscan Red with 5 stripes so Juniata Terminal Co. can sandwich it between their 2 E-8's.

There's an ex-D&RGW PB still out there-- last reported being used on the Algoma Central as an HEP generator. Doyle supposedly got THREE pairs of A-1-A trucks out of Canada back when the PAs were first returned to the U.S. I've never heard what happened to the "extra" set, but they'd look great under that B-unit (which currently rides on EMD Blomberg trucks.

The pink Lionel may not be an abomination unto the Lord, but it's sure an abomination unto the steam engine. On the other hand, a Photoshop polka-dot mess might be entertaining.

There was an April Fool issue of...I think it was Rod and Custom featuring a pimped-out 4449 with chrome, flames and a cartoon DLM fainting away at the sight, with a magazine rep saying "But we had a sponsorship deal!"

Probably the closest we'll ever get to a pink locomotive is the pastel colored Lionel trains of the 1950s. Can anyone even imagine how awful a real steam engine would look in pink?!?

Probably better than the new things MBTA is now receiving. They put the ugh in ugh lee.

Algoma Central #78 was built as D&RGW PB1 #600B in 1947. Renumbered to #6002 on 3/13/1950. Converted to steam heat car #6002 in 1965. Later renumbered to #253. After the acquisition of the Hawker-Siddely "Tempo" cars in 1987 (I believe that's when), the #253 was again converted from steam generation to head end power generation, and served in this capacity until the acquisition of the three F40PHR locomotives (#242, #283 & #289) from Amtrak.

Because #253 was owned by Ansco through their Ski Train subsidiary (SKTX), it was part of the sale of equipment to Algoma Central in 2009. The three F40PHR's consecutively became Algoma Central/CN #104 to #106.

The three cars used by the Rio Grandé for executive service (as well as First Class service on the rear of the Ski Train) were retained by Ansco: dome lounge buffet sleeper "California" (ex-AMTK, nee-SP&S for NP pool), buffet lounge "Utah" (ex-"Iowa", exx-CRI&P #364 "Duncan", nee-M&StL #53), and business car "Kansas" (ex-#100 "Wilson McCarthy", nee-coach #1240, originally ordered by the C&O).

Doyle McCormack also has an RSD5, which was originally Utah #306, and is currently painted as NKP #324.

Got curious tonight on if any significant progress has been made since they're now settled in their new home, have fired up the 251 inside of her as this thread attests to, and the streamliner event at Spencer is all long in the past at this point.

Looking forward to seeing her move under her own power one of these days. :)

I just saw something in the last few days on one of the many Facebook railroad pages I follow about how Doyle McCormick had wrapped up work on SP #4449's 1472 and now would be devoting his time to the PA. I live about ten miles from the ORHC, its home.

Edit, here is the link:

Over on Trainorders.com a few months ago I asked the question of what it would take to get running again. The replies were that it was mainly traction motor cabling and other wiring-- a big job to be sure.
