The great Bill Wallen arrived at the depot thismorning with his latest restored and fully operational searchlight signal. The mechanical operating parts are in a clear case for all to see and learn from and operate, a toggle switch changes the three coloured lenses. The light from May 1953 and is from milepost 543 on Sherman Hill west of Cheyenne.
We are so fortunate to have Bill nad his fabulous signal and railroad collection leaving nearby and we look forward to more donations from him.

The San Diego Model Railroad Museum has a semaphore signal probably from an interlocking tower set-up or from an automatic block system in the lobby outside its entrance. The door to the equipment box has been removed and replaced with a plexiglass cover. A visitor can press a button and watch the mechanism work and move the semaphore. The mast has been cut-down to fit in the available space.

Nice! I know that the folks at Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Oak Ridge have a "signal garden" planned for the soon to be built depot. I think ten different makes/models are planned for display. Their collection includes signals from NC&St.L, L&N, CNO&TP, Southern, CB&Q, Rock Island, AT&SF, N&W, MOPAC, and others. Maybe the most interesting is the US&S tri-color that was in the background of the photos from the L&N derailment/explosion site in Waverly, TN.

Among others, my favorite signal displays include the railroad museum in Monon, IN, and the old semaphore set that SERM had/has in Duluth.

This is great! Several of my train order signals and tilt board signal are manual and I encourage visitors to touch, feel, and operate.
It's up to us to pass the past along. I will have to add your museum to my list of must visit places.

PS - I love the aquarium display box. What a simple and inexpensive idea.

The only time I was ever in Cheyenne was probably in 1990 and I assume it didn't exist then...

If you want to see 1928 vintage US&S block signals in actual use, come visit Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. A portion of our two mile trolley line is now protected by such signals, salvaged from Port Authority Transit's Library and Overbrook lines by PTM volunteers, reconditioned, and put in service at PTM. The signals are controlled by AC track circuits, just as they were before. This installation is being expanded during 2013. Eventually all parts of our line will be so protected. It isn't just a demonstration however, these signals govern the operations of trolleys on our line.

I need to put one in the garage for my wife's parking space...ahem
