Hurricane Irene hit Ulster County hard, with a state of emergency still in effect.

The CMRR was adversely affected on the "west" end, though the Kingston end was mostly untouched.

Principal losses were: Bridge Street and Phoenicia yard (scouring like the 2005 flood), Campground Curve where the rails are in the creek (like 1987), and finally the Boiceville Trestle, where three of four spans are now in the creek. I have posted many photos here:

http://photos.greatrails.net/show/?orde ... ntain%20RR

See also this ABC newscast sent by George Bain:

http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/video?id=8335272

The track at MP 23.3 also sustained damage as well as track between MP 22.6 and 22.7 which suffered severe scouring.

The good news is that the track from Mt. Tremper to MP 23.3 has only minor damage and we can start running there very soon. Service is scheduled to resume Saturday, September 10th on this section. In Kingston, we are continuing to run as scheduled, including this Saturday.

In the meantime, we have lots of work to do to clean up the railroad.

Saturday, September 3rd

All hands call to Phoenicia yard for cleanup. There will be at least four crews working in the Phoenicia yard Saturday and all need help. First, there will be a group working to move fill around the yard. Second, a group will be gathering brush and debris around the yard and moving it to a central burn pile and burning it. A third group will be gathering loose OTM from bridge street to Farmer's Crossing. A fourth group will be reorganizing and stacking OTM by the trailer addition. George Peck has asked everyone to come at 9am.

The 701 crew will be working at Mt. Tremper on Saturday.

Sunday, September 4th

George Peck will lead a cleanup crew at Phoenicia starting at 9am. They will continue Saturday's work.

Monday, September 5th

No work crews scheduled.
