The Feather River Rail Society is currently running a fundraiser for its Western Pacific Centennial Campaign. This will support FRRS programs as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Western Pacific Railroad.

As a gift for donating members, we have been given a limited number of invitations to ride the Union Pacific 844 steam trips.

The three trips available are:

Oakland to Stockton via Niles Canyon and Altamont Pass, April 22, 2009 - $400 donation per seat

Oroville to Portola via the Feather River Canyon, May 2, 2009 - $1000 donation per seat, lunch provided

Portola to Winnemucca, May 5, 2009 - $500 donation per seat, lunch provided

All are one-way with optional return by complementary luxury motorcoach. We have a maximum of 50 invitations only for each segment.

Those participating must be members of the FRRS. If you are not a member and would like to donate, we are also offering complementary 1 year Associate memberships to anyone donating $400 or more, or you can sign up for any of our other membership levels when you donate.

To donate to the Centennial Campaign, please call the Museum at 530.832.4131 between 10 AM and 5 PM daily. The Museum Manager will provide full details.

Also, the 2009 Western Pacific Historical Convention is coming up on May 29-30 in Oroville, California. Details and registration are available at the Historical Society website: www.WPRRHS.org. As a special this year, we will be offering a motor coach tour up the Feather River Canyon to the museum on Sunday, May 31. At the museum, we will have a guided tour and a catered lunch in the California Zephyr diner “Silver Plate”. Only 45 seats are available for this trip. Cost is $60 per person if booked before May 15. Both the convention and the Sunday Canyon Tour are open to members and non-members.

Come join us this year in celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the opening of the Western Pacific Railroad!

Eugene Vicknair
Secretary, FRRS
