Had the opportunity to take a look at the old ( 1907 ) Yazoo and Mississippi Valley depot in Vicksburg Mississippi the other day. This old classic depot sits just off the downtown area on what was an IC line that when the depot opened 102 years ago, hosted over 22 passenger trains a day.

This station appears to have been restored at some point, and now apparently sits neglected and apparently empty again, along what is no longer a through train route, as the trackage by the station appears to dead end a mile or two away at the port of Vicksburg.

Does anyone have any information on the status of this unique station, as it is definitely showing the signs again of neglect and lack of maintenance. The trackage behind the depot belonged to the IC before it was sold to the Midsouth and now it belongs to the KCS. Two IC cabooses sit adjacent to the depot, a IC wide vision caboose ( still painted midsouth ) and an old IC caboose. Both show signs of neglect and lack of maintenance.

Curious to know who owns this unique depot, as it apparently privately owned likely sold during the IC era.

Thank you

Dean Levin

I believe the local NRHS chapter owned it and had grand plans for it just a few years ago, but I'm not sure. I think they were going to turn it into a museum.

What a great station. Let's hope it get's put to some good use and does not sit and decay. Thanks for posting the photos.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

A historic artifact near the Vicksburg depot that may not have the same curb-appeal, but is still fairly significant has, at last report, been relocated. About a century ago the IC moved several trusses from Dubuque, where they were part of the D&D Bridge built in 1869. They formed part of one of Andrew Carnegie’s first wrought iron structures. They are pin-connected through trusses that formed an approach that was later filled-in. It is my understanding that in the past few years these trusses, now city owned for roadway / walkway use, were relocated to improve rail clearances. Information on these structures would be appreciated.
