The Washington, D.C. Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society has about 18 original Pullman mattresses that we will give to a good home such as a Railway Historical Society or a museum. The mattresses are primarily suitable for a display situation or to use as a model to make new ones.
12 of the mattresses came out of our 1923 sleeper-buffet-lounge, Dover Harbor, when we replaced the original double-bedroom mattresses are few years back. The upper berth mattresses are about 68 inches long and five inches thick, and the lower berth mattresses are about 72 inches long and four inches thick. The mattresses that came out of the Dover harbor have been wrapped in plastic and stored in a non-climate controlled baggage car for several years. The other original mattresses we had accumulated over the years also been stored in that car. All of them are as is where is.
The mattresses are located in suburban Maryland about 20 minutes from BWI airport. You must come get them.
If no one claims them in a reasonable amount of time we will recycle them. But we thought that given their historic nature, we would give another group chance to take them.
