A former Conrail caboose #19869, New Haven NE-5 class from 1942/44, will be auctioned off January 10th, 2026 at a public auction in Phoenix. From what I can tell it has been here in the Phoenix area since at least 2012, and I for one have no clue how it ended up in Arizona or why.

It's currently in possession of the auction company, Western Sales Management. The auction date is January 10th and bidding is only in person. It appears to be structurally complete and all major components seem to be included, BUT it has been thoroughly stripped to the walls and floor internally, with some 110V wiring attempted.

The photos in the listing show it gutted to the bare walls and floor. If you want a caboose and don't need to worry about originality, here it is.

An associate of mine has dealt with the auction company many times on "normal" vehicles. He says they are a very good, well-run company to do business with. They primarily auction off vehicles, containers, and equipment. We suspect they would want it off their property quickly and would charge daily storage fees if not removed after a week.

If anyone is seriously interested in it he or I could swing by there and inspect it closer and get more pictures.
