Before I go to the effort of making a few replicas, does anyone have 3 or 4 Pyle-National DFO-3 plugs that are surplus to their needs? Alaska Railroad #557, circa 1944, uses them for cab lighting.

Quote: Cast and machined? Yes. They actually aren't quite done. The originals had die cast aluminum cases. I tried to use them as a pattern for sand casting in aluminum but there was no draft and I couldn't do it. Plan B was to 3D print the case pattern with adequate draft and that worked for sand casting. The insulator block was 3D printed using a resin that will withstand over 300 f. The contacts were 3D printed in castable resin and investment cast. The cases are done with the exception of the 1" x 14 tpi threads. I was successful on one but another couple failed and I need to improve my method of holding them to keep them from moving while being threaded. When I get a bit more time I'll get them finished. All in all, an interesting exercise. |
