They're not paying much ($7.40 - $13.00) but they're sure looking for a tough hombre... Quote: Able to lift 100 pounds. Able to tolerate temperatures of 0 to 140. 140 degrees? I'd melt like Frosty in Florida... |

It's a wonder they get anyone for those wages. Maybe the cost of living there is very low. |

No state income tax helps. The word on the street is that they REALLY need someone who knows railroading and for best results someone who knows something about railroading IN ADDITION to how to boil water with coal. ETA |

If they lack that talent on board, it is odd that the foreman's job description is slanted toward only those that have operated their equipment on their railroad to the exclusion of outsiders. It appears to me as if they know who they want to promote and are jumping through hoops to satisfy the HR process. I could recommend a few good candidates otherwise, but saw no reason to pass the word along given the wording. I hope they have it all under control. dave |

It does look like they know who they have in mind. It reminds me of public works contracts where they have a specific product in mind, can't state a name brand, and so write the spec around the product. i.e. They can't say we want an iPad so they say "Capable of running the iOS operating system and applications..." Joking aside, I wonder about the fireman's position too. I have no doubt the cab reaches 140 in the summer in the south at times, especially with the firebox door open. OK, that's fine, but lifting 100 pounds? That's some serious heavy duty lifting. Then again, maybe that assures you last the day on the coal scoop... |

Probably the weight is sand bags. I'm pretty sure this railroad isn't the D&S or the Cog.......but they should have a decent grade and some tightish curves given the location. The firing itself probably isn't a gut-buster unless you aren't a good fireman. Still scratching my head over the "servant" thing.......maybe they want Butler to apply? dave |
