Well I guess most likely the shipping will probably cost more than the locomotives themselves.

I wonder how they can stipulate the engines must leave Australia? After I purchase something how can the seller control what I do with it? I guess if it's a condition of purchase they can get away with it.

Meanwhile, the ad mentions they have 20 for sale, and there are presently 5 listed. If your museum is planning to preserve a unit coal train, complete with power, nows your chance to stock up!

Well Bob, they presumably do sit on their property.....and Australia has a bit of an eccentric relationship with retired rolling stock. The flipside of this coin is, after an American dealer bought and removed many retired Melbourne tramcars, he was forbidden to remove the few he owned but where still there. Years later, he got a couple cars and a few containers of parts. At least you know the conditions of the deal when you bid.

It may be for tax reasons, if the locomotive(s) leave they get the import duty back or some such.
