Diamond Rail Group is pleased to announce the limited time availability of new bearing adapter boxes for 5-1/2x10 D-class roller bearings for use in passenger car trucks with narrow pedestals (nominally 9" and the standard for most heavyweight era passenger cars). We expect this to be a limited one time run, so don't hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain boxes for your current AND future needs!

The box design we are using will allow for use of separate equalizer seats, thus allowing for easy adjustments to compensate for different wheel rim thicknesses from axle to axle. We anticipate availability of 4-5 different equalizer seat thicknesses to cover wheels from 1-1/4" to 3" in rim thickness. We will also be offering coil spring seats to allow for use in Pullman 242-style trucks.

The boxes will be cast in the USA by a foundry that regularly produces castings to M-1003 standards and, while we are not currently an M-1003 supplier, we will be following the applicable AAR standards for the production of cast steel roller bearing adapters.
Currently, we are anticipating a sales price of $1,000-1,200 each. The final price will be determined by the finish machining cost and we expect to have the final pricing within the next 2 weeks. We anticipate offering a small volume discount for larger orders. The equalizer seats, as well as Fabreeka pads, will be available separately for additional cost. We anticipate equalizer seats to be in the $125-150 range.

Casting production is expected to take place in December 2025 with final delivery upon completion of machining. Depending on the number of orders received, delivery should begin in late December 2025 and continue into 1Q 2026. Boxes will be shipped based on the order in which customer orders are received and paid. A deposit of 50% (non-refundable except in the case that we are unable to fulfill the order) will be required to secure production of your boxes, with the balance due prior to shipment.
