Greetings,
I am searching for someone that is familiar with the structural makeup of historic freight cars and can estimate restoration costs (just a real relative number). If you can help, please email me directly.
Thanks in advance,
Gerry
hottshot65@aol.com
hottshot65@aol.com |

Hi,
After one makes an assessment of the car, including photographs of its pre-restoration condition, then the kinds of costs you are looking at depend on a ton of variables, including what you plan to do with it when you are done restoring it...that is, if you are going to move it around, you have more to look into than if it's always going to sit where it is.
What kinds of freight cars do you have? Are they metal or wood? What's their general condition? Getting a good estimate of restoration costs may require the knowledge and experience of many people including carpenters, welders, painters, mechanics, and others.
Let us know what you have and how good or how bad it looks, and somebody out here just might have done such a restoration project before.
--Malcolm
collections@srmduluth.org |
