Anyone have more details, photos of this former Lehigh Valley engine facility being converted to a library? Is it a roundhouse, backshop, or what? http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=10839622&BRD=2259&PAG=461&dept_id=455154&rfi=6 ryarger@rypn.org |

This is the ancient stone roundhouse in White Haven. I am soooooo glad it is being reused. It is right next to the Reading & Northern's ex Lehigh Valley mainline. It is a neat building, with the LVRR initials cast in metal above each stall. It does show some trackside evidence of being struck by a train at some time. There is no turntable, but ample room for parking. It was used by Conrail for MOW storage at one time. It is probably on of the top three the most sigificant US roundhouses left north of Baltimore, IMHO. In a bid for the longest gap between original entry and update (nearly ten years): http://citizensvoice.com/news/railroad- ... -1.1552685 ![]() Quote: A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the grand opening of the White Haven Library and visitor center on May 24. The library is housed at the former Lehigh Valley Railroad engine house.
