a poll to see how many folks have installed their second water glass per the new FRA rules; right now we're half way there, 1 in 1925 and 1 coming later this year for 604 at spencer;
Jim,
We have the 2nd glass on our #58 at Wilmington and Western. Our #98 is down for a tube job, UT mapping of the boiler, and some firebox work. She will with-out a doubt get a 2nd one when she is done.
I have worked with stationary boilers since the early 80's and have always felt 2 water glasses are best. There are too few people who spend enough time with a steam locomotive and use the tri-cocks well enough to get safely over the road with no water glass. The second sight glass is best.
