How many GE road diesel locomotives have been preserved in the U.S.? I know for sure of the U25B in Northeast, PA and I think the L&N 1616 (U18B?) is still considered as preserved, and the Illinois RR Museum has a former BN 6 axle unit. Are there any others out there representing General Electric's early years in locomotive building? Did the experimental XP24 early U25B that was in GE's back lot a few years ago get preserved?
It seems like the GE units have been overlooked in presevation, while everyone seems to be acquiring old Geeps, Alcos and SDs.
bighookx45@aol.com |

Preservation Points in the September 1999 Trains GE SPecial Issue had a nice roster of the preserved U-boats. It's not avialable online, but when I get home I'll try to post a summary.
eledbett@rypn.org |

The Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California does not have a U28B as listed in the Trains article. They do have an operable U25B, SP 3100, which is used on their demonstration railway.
BobC19024@aol.com |

The Trains list did not include UP U28C #2804 at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, which was mentioned in the earlier post. they added it in a correction two months later. They thought none of this model survived.
rdgoldfede@aol.com |
